Re: Painting wood with emulsion Reply #1 - Apr 21 st , 2013, 11:13am You can, but the paint is relatively soft and thick and will mark easily, you need to prime if you want a get a completely opaque finish but if you wanted to have a more shabby chic look you could leave off the primer and just paint onto bare wood.

I only suggest using this paint on woodwork that is already in very good condition (and has previously been painted) and simply needs freshening up. You still have to use a fine sandpaper (120 grit or so) on the surface to remove the nibs and imperfections whilst also providing a key for the new paint to adhere to.

B&Q do a low odour fast drying gloss paint that comes up nice, and it washed out of the brush with water. Im not sure how well it ages, but its far less messy than the oil based paints. They do it in a gloss and a satin if you prefer.
